10 - Backstay (runner)
Depending on the yacht, there are typically two different situations:
1) The backstay takes the total load, so without gear. These lines should have high strength and low elongation. We recommend a single braid Dyneema® SK78 (our D-core) in this case for runners.
2) The backstay runs through blocks, with a gear ratio of e.g. 1:4. In this case less rope tension and less influence of rope elongation is noticed. Cruising yachts can use polyester or step up to SK38 Dyneema® or Stirotex® for a back stay.
