16 - Mooring line
Mooring (and anchor) lines require high strength and high elongation to absorb shocks. Another important requirement is very high resistance against abrasion. Flexibility and good grip are important for managing the lines like making knots. We advise mooring ropes made of polyester. Polypropylene is sometimes also used for mooring lines. This material has poor UV resistance, poor abrasion resistance and a limited strength. It is cheaper than polyester and floats. We would not recommend mooring lines of polypropylene.
Suggested length for a mooring line is 1 to 1.5 times the boat length
