8 - Boom vang
Depending on the yacht, you can distinguish 2 different situations: 1) Control lines which runs trough blocks, with a gear ratio (e.g. 1:4) damping the effect of rope tension and elongation on sail trim. Here good grip, some flexibility are important (easy to manually handle). 2) Lines used in systems, often taking the total load (so without gear). These lines should have high strength low elongation (e.g. Dyneema®/ D-core) to ensure good a sail trim: sail stays flat with increasing winds. Cruising yachts can use polyester, Regatta yachts should use Dyneema®.
