Sheets
A good sheet runs smoothly, offers enough grip and keeps sail trim under control. The right choice depends on your sailing style. Want direct feedback and precise trim? Then choose sheets with Dyneema® or Stirotex fibers. For relaxed cruising, a high quality polyester sheet offers comfort and durability.

Choosing the right sheets: materials, diameter and handling on board
Sheets are constantly moving through blocks and winches. The right balance between grip, flexibility and durability improves trimming comfort and control. Material choice, diameter and cover construction all play a key role.
Low stretch fibers like Dyneema or Stirotex provide direct feedback and stable sail trim. Polyester offers comfort, durability and excellent value. Grip fibers increase friction when trimming by hand or on smaller winches. A well designed cover protects against wear, heat and glazing.

What material do I need for my sailboat sheets?
| Material or construction | Effect on sheet performance |
|---|---|
| Dyneema | Very low stretch and low weight, delivers direct control and precise trim |
| Stirotex | Minimal stretch with excellent strength to weight ratio for performance sailing (best value for money) |
| Polyester | Soft handling, good abrasion resistance and long service life for cruising use |
| Technora cover | Extra grip and high abrasion resistance, ideal for high loaded sheets and winches |
| Grip cover | Improved control when trimming by hand, without compromising smooth running |
Which sheet diameter feels best in hand?
Comfort is key. Thicker sheets feel softer and are easier on the hands. Thinner sheets reduce weight and friction but require good grip. Choosing the right balance improves long term comfort on board.
Measuring the correct rope diameter
Measuring your rope diameter correctly is essential for safe and efficient handling on board. A rope that is too thick can cause friction and wear in blocks, clutches and winches. Too thin and it may slip or feel uncomfortable in hand. Use a caliper or ruler and measure the rope under light tension. Avoid compressing the cover and always measure at several points along the rope. This gives the most accurate result and helps you choose the correct diameter for your deck hardware. Dyneema or polyester, what is the difference?
Understanding the difference between Dyneema and polyester ropes helps you choose the right line for your application. Dyneema offers extremely low stretch, high strength and low weight, ideal for performance sailing and precise trim. Polyester is softer, more forgiving and highly abrasion resistant, making it a reliable choice for cruising and everyday use. The right choice depends on load, handling comfort and budget.
