Stirotex ropes for performance sailing
Ropes made with Stirotex fibres are strong, lightweight and low-stretch. They are a great choice for performance sailing, racing and smart modern deck layouts.
Stirotex ropes offer excellent value for money. They are easy to splice, UV-resistant and much stronger than polyester, making them ideal for halyards, sheets, control lines, backstays, soft shackles, loops and lashings.
Why choose Stirotex?
Stirotex ropes are popular among sailors because they combine very low stretch with high strength and low weight. Compared with polyester, Stirotex offers much better performance in applications where direct control and minimal elongation are important.
A covered rope is often useful when the line runs through clutches, blocks or winches. The cover protects the core and improves grip. For racing yachts, a heat-resistant cover such as Technora is often recommended, as used in TN Racing.
Where the line does not wear or needs to be held by hand, the cover can often be removed to save weight. This is called tapering and works very well for spinnaker sheets, halyards and other performance lines with a Stirotex core.

Core strength and splicing
A rope with Stirotex fibres gets most of its strength from the core. The cover mainly provides grip, protection and abrasion resistance. This makes Stirotex especially suitable for spliced solutions, because the core carries the load.
Stirotex is often used to replace stainless steel wire in modern sailing systems. Soft shackles, backstays, loops and lashings on sailing yachts are good examples of where Stirotex performs extremely well.
